About Becky
Well, what can I say? I am a 27 year old artist and illustrator living in the
stunning mountains of North Wales. I graduated from Birmingham Institute of Art
and Design with a First Class Degree in Illustration in 2003 after winning the 'Debenham's
Design Innovator of the Year Award' for my Final Year Portfolio. From this I
gained my first commercial commission to produce the art work
for the Debenham's
New Store in Birmingham's Bull Ring Shopping Complex. Even five years later they
are still up. From that very first commission I have never really looked back.
For a short while I worked as a Junior Designer and web-designer at a local
Internet company back home in North Wales but now I am a full time artist and
illustrator concentrating on my clients' commissions. These can range from book
illustrations to fashion to a watercolour of a client's favourite dog! I also
help to run a greeting card and wedding stationery business with my father,
Peter. (You can find the links on the contact page)
My father Peter is a huge inspiration for me and I suppose it's where I get my
unique watercolour style from. My focus in life is to produce beautiful
paintings that people can enjoy - for me, that is true art. Art is not some
people running around the Tate Modern in London, nor is it an 'un-made bed'.
These are just concepts, something the advertising industry has been doing for
years to to get an idea for a campaign! Peter was a Creative Director with
Saatchi and Saatchi Advertising Agency in 1970's and ran his own successful
Graphic Design Business for many years before becoming a Design Lecturer in the
1990's.
I am married to Jonathan Whalley, the Chief
Mechanical Engineer on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways. We live in Porthmadog and I have my
studios in my home with my two cats and I also work with my father in the studio
at Rhyd-y-Sarn, Meg and Bee to keep me company. As you may
of noticed I am a keen horse woman and I own two beautiful Welsh Cobs called Lasgarn Jake and Bryndir Taran. They are my
inspiration behind most of my
equine paintings.
Please feel free to contact me regarding any aspect of my work.

About Peter
Croeso! Welcome to
our web site. I have spent my entire career involved in art in some
way - from art directing, illustration, lecturing and painting. It's
the
'painting' bit that I do full time now that I have retired to the
mountains of Snowdonia.

As a professional lecturer I have developed and delivered many art
courses in North Wales and south Buckinghamshire during the past
thirty years as well as working as Creative Group Head
for Saatchi and running my own communications business. In the past I
have won the 'Marketing Award of the Year' from the
(then) DTI plus
three D&AD Awards (the BAFTA equivalent in the art and design world).
Throughout this period I have been drawn back time and again to
Snowdonia like a yo-yo on caffeine. Many
hours have been spent exploring and recording the extraordinarily wild
landscape and the indelible legacy of slate quarrying that has been
etched into every conceivable facet. It is these images that I have
attempted to translate onto the greetings cards in the web
site.
On of the great joys of going through this fascinating exercise is the
huge privilege of working with my recently graduated daughter who has
shown herself to be one of the best illustrators I have ever worked
with. The remarkable difference between the two styles is evident
throughout the site and is a great accolade and evidence of her total
independence of creative thought.
